4 best ways to let your hair go grey

5/6/2020

While unable to make use of our salon services, many people may have decided to take this opportunity to grow out their colour and go grey. This can be daunting, but the social distancing we've had to endure presents a great opportunity.

Below are 5 unique ways we can help you grow out your colour and go grey.

These are also wonderful options for continuing to have you hair coloured with minimal maintenance. Let's face it; a different look is always fun - and we will create a process perfect for your hair goals. Keep in mind, all the wonderful things colour does for our hair like soften the texture, add shine and control tone not to mention enhancing skin tones and eye colour.

  1. Switch to a Demi-permanent Colour
Demi permanent colours soften between visits so your roots are less obvious, and then gradually go lighter with your root touch up till your colour is grown out. This method of growing out your colour can take 6-12 months depending on how dark it is to start.
  2. Colour Blocking
I love this option. Rather than colouring all your hair, we use a blocking technique so some of your grey is naturally left out. Then you can decide to continue with this method or just let it go. A great low maintenance option.
  3. Use a Colour Shampoo
These are great if you just want to add some funk during your growing out phase, but also if your already grey. The more often you use them the more intense the colour, stop using them and they fade out. These shampoos come in many shades, come in at about $25 and you do this at home..
  4.  Use a Toner
This will give you all the benefits of hair colour, the softening, the shine and conditioning as well as control any unwanted yellow tones and is also a low maintenance option.

Tips for Grey Hair
  1. Keep it healthy. Whether you have decided to continue colouring you hair or grow in your grey, we all know that the grey hair on our heads is not the same texture as the rest of our hair. Use a proper shampoo and conditioner for your hair type. There's nothing worse than wiry, dry, unruly hair no matter what colour it is. Read more about ways to keep your hair healthy.
  2.  Wear a hat. Many people don't realize that grey hair, even though it looks grey, still has pigment and if exposed to UV rays will yellow...pull out that hat when you're out in the sun!
